She lays it there so when it turns into a caterpillar it has something to eat. The egg is tiny, round and has ribs.

The Caterpillar
When the egg hatches a baby caterpillar comes out of the egg and then the caterpillar has been  born. For the caterpillar to grow it has to eat then it will grow and be big. But the caterpillar has to be on the right plant so there is milk in it for them to eat.

The Monarch Butterfly:When the chrysalis has been crack a butterfly comes out the color of the butterfly is black and orange it has to fly away. When a male butterfly comes it has two little black dots if you see black dots that is a male butterfly and then one with no dots that is a female butterfly.
